After the Cure Review

  • Eight years ago the December Plague swept through the human population of earth. The Infected were driven mad by the disease, becoming violent and cannibalistic, killing even those closest to them without hesitation. Six years ago, the tiny surviving community of Immune humans found a cure, and the Infected began to wake up and realize what they’d done. Over time, society has begun to rebuild itself. It’s now ready to judge those responsible for the Plague. Nella Rider, the court psychologist and Frank Courtlen a defense attorney are trying to establish the truth. But more depends on it than they know. Can they find the answers they need before the fragile remains of humanity vanish for good?

“I don’t usually like reading zombie fiction. I don’t know why, I just can’t get into it. Not a problem with this story! The “zombies” aren’t dead, just infected. It focuses on life after the infection is cured, complete with physical and emotional scars. Those responsible for the release of the bacteria that caused the infection are about to go on trial for their crimes. Everyone thinks the worst is over and it’s time for healing. But, the court appointed lawyer and psychiatrist are afraid it might just be the beginning. Can they figure out what’s happening in time to stop it?” By T. Sickles

“I loved the premise, and I thought it was an interesting treatment of the ‘zombie’ phenomenon. It gave a thoughtful look at the aftermath of a post-apocalyptic plague. It was a suspenseful page turner, and had some good character development. There were some portions of clunky prose, and at times it seemed like the author had used a phrase and forgotten, so she re-used it about two pages later. The relationship between the lawyer and the psychologist had a little bit of a ‘forced’ feel to it, however, and the ending was a touch clunky, perhaps trying to be more than it was. All in all it was very enjoyable and I found myself reading for longer stretches than I intended to see how things turned out. A touch more from the editor, and it probably could have received that fifth star.” By Matthew Barnes
